Upright piano being moved with specialist lifting equipment in Glasgow

Piano removals in Glasgow

Moving a piano needs specialist lifting equipment and people who have done it before. We move upright and grand pianos from homes, venues and commercial premises, in Glasgow and throughout the UK, using purpose built vans and proven handling techniques.

Man with a van, single items

For jobs that do not need a full house move. A mattress, a few boxes, a single large item, or a furniture collection. Our man with a van service is regularly used for eBay, Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree collections, and for auction and showroom pickups anywhere in Glasgow. We have the equipment to handle motorcycles and bulky furniture safely from collection to delivery.

Long distance moves

Based in Glasgow, covering Central Scotland and long distance moves across the UK. Insurance cover applies on the same terms as a move across the city.

Why customers choose us

The bits that go wrong on a bad move, and how we avoid them

There are plenty of removal companies in Glasgow. These are the things that separate a move that goes to plan from one that does not.

Comparison of a Moves 4 U load, blanket wrapped and secured, against an unprotected mattress loose in a van
Left, a Moves 4 U load: blanket wrapped, bagged and strapped. Right, what an unprotected move looks like. The difference is not the van, it is the preparation.

  • Everything gets protected, every time

Sofas bagged. Furniture blanket wrapped then cling wrapped. Cardboard down on floors, door frames and edges protected before anything heavy comes through.

  • Disconnections done by certified trades

Joinery, electrical and plumbing work is handled by qualified trades, not by removal crew having a go. The work is certified and your home insurance is not left with a question mark.

  • A survey before we price it

We walk the property, note any existing damage and agree it with you in writing. No arguments on moving day about what was already there.

  • Glasgow knowledge that saves hours

Tenement stairs, narrow streets, parking suspensions and permit zones. We plan access before the day rather than discovering it on the day.

  • Clear pricing, hourly or fixed

We quote an hourly rate or a flat rate depending on the job. No hidden costs added afterwards.

  • The owner is on the job

Armando Ross runs the business and works on the moves. If something goes wrong it stops with him, not with a call centre.

About Moves 4 U

A Glasgow removals company, run by the man who does the moves

Armando Ross has worked in removals for over 20 years and has traded as Moves 4 U Limited since 2006. The business runs from Toryglen on the south side of Glasgow, with a fleet built specifically for the removal trade, from white goods through to pianos.

Staff are trained and uniformed, wear appropriate footwear indoors and use protective floor film so your home is not marked during the move. We are fully insured, and we publish the certificates rather than just claiming cover.

No two moves are the same, so we price each one on what it actually involves, your timeline and your budget.

Common questions

Removals in Glasgow, answered

Planning ahead? Read our ultimate moving checklist and our guide to packing fragile items like a pro, or see more in our removals news and advice.

How much do removals cost in Glasgow?

Glasgow removals are priced either by the hour or as a fixed price for the whole job, and the figure comes down to five things: the size of the property, how much you are moving, the access at both ends, the distance, and whether you want packing included. Access is the one people underestimate. A third floor tenement flat with a turn in the stairwell takes considerably longer than a ground floor house holding the same amount, so it costs more.

We survey the property and give you a written quote before you commit, with nothing added afterwards. If you want a rough idea before booking a survey, call and describe the property and we will give you a ballpark on the phone.

Is it worth paying for a removal company?

For a one bedroom flat on the ground floor with easy parking, a hired van and a couple of friends can work. Beyond that the maths usually favours a professional firm. A Glasgow tenement move with three flights of stairs takes a trained crew a fraction of the time, and one damaged sofa, scratched floor or pulled back costs more than the saving. A removal company also carries goods in transit and public liability insurance, so breakages are covered. A hired van does not include that.

How far in advance should I book a removal company?

Four to six weeks is comfortable for a standard house move. Fridays and the last working day of the month are the busiest slots in Glasgow and go first, so book earlier if your date falls on one. We can sometimes take short notice jobs and same day storage, so it is worth calling even if your date is close.

Do you move tenement flats with no lift?

Yes. Tenement moves are routine work for us and a large part of what we do in Glasgow. We check the stairwell, landings, turns and door widths at the survey so we know before the day whether anything needs dismantling or hoisting, and we bring the right number of crew for the number of flights.

Are you insured, and what does the cover include?

Yes. We carry goods in transit cover on an all risks basis across the fleet, public liability up to £2,000,000 and employers liability up to £10,000,000. Cover extends across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the offshore islands. Our certificates are published on the site so you can read them before you book.

Can you move a piano?

Yes. We move upright and grand pianos using specialist lifting equipment and purpose built vans, from homes, venues and commercial premises, in Glasgow and across the UK. Tell us the type of piano and the access at both ends when you call so we bring the right equipment and crew.

Do you do packing, or do I pack myself?

Either. We offer a full packing service, a part pack for the awkward items such as glassware, mirrors and artwork, or we can supply materials and you pack yourself. Whatever you pack, we still wrap and protect furniture ourselves before it is loaded.

What will a removal company not take?

We cannot carry anything flammable or hazardous. That means petrol, diesel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols, fireworks, garden chemicals and lighter fluid, all of which need to be used up or disposed of before the move. Open or perishable food and most houseplants are also best not loaded. Cash, jewellery, passports and important documents should travel with you rather than in the van. Tell us about anything unusual at the survey, including firearms, fuel in mowers or aquariums, and we will confirm what we can and cannot carry.

What happens if my move dates do not line up?

This is common with Scottish missives and chained sales. We move your belongings into secure storage and deliver them when you get the keys. Insurance is included as standard and storage can often be arranged the same day you call.

Do you move outside Glasgow?

Yes. We cover Central Scotland and take long distance moves across the UK. Long distance moves are covered on the same insurance terms as a move across the city.

Tell us where you are moving and we will price it properly

Free, no obligation quotes. We will come out and survey the job rather than guess at it over the phone.
